Indonesian Government to seek compensation from Australia and PTTEP for Montara spill


The official Chinese Newsagency Zinhua has reported that the Indonesian Government is preparing a draft to seek compensation for damages caused by the Montara Well Head oil spill in the Timor Sea. They will seek compensation from both the Australian Government and PTTEP Australasia, operators of the Montara well.

"The results of laboratory tests conducted by our observation team showed that Indonesian Timor waters is contaminated by the oil spill came up from the explosion in Montara oil field," Pieter Fina, head of the Indonesian team tasked to mitigate the oil spill in Timor Sea said.

Mr Fina claimed that fishermen have suffered significant reductions in catches due to contamination and seaweed businesses in East Nusa Tenggara have been destroyed.
